Fellowship Advanced Endoscopy

The Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year, non-accredited fellowship designed to provide advanced training in complex gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. The program offers extensive exposure to pancreatobiliary and luminal endoscopy at the Basil I. Hirschowitz Endoscopic Center of Excellence, a high-volume quaternary referral center. Fellows gain experience in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), EUS-guided transgastric ERCP (EDGE), SpyGlass cholangioscopy, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), pseudocyst drainage, and other advanced interventions. Training also includes general gastroenterology consultations, endoscopy, specialty clinics, teaching conferences, and research activities, with fellows expected to contribute to publications and presentations.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Apply through the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship Matching Program.
3. Submit the ASGE application.
4. Provide post-undergraduate education details.
5. Submit United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores.
6. Submit certification of completion of residency and Gastroenterology fellowship training.
7. Submit a personal statement.
8. Submit a current Curriculum Vitae (CV), updated within the previous three months.
9. Submit three Letters of Reference.
10. Applications are reviewed beginning in July, with applicants required to be available by August 1.
11. Interview invitations are released during the last week of August, with interviews conducted from September through October.
12. Participate in the ASGE Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship Match, with Match Day in November.
13. The fellowship begins on July 1.
