Medical degree: Graduate of an accredited U.S./Canadian medical school or an international medical school with a valid ECFMG Certificate before appointment
USMLE/COMLEX: Passing USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK or equivalent examinations
Step 3: Applicants entering at PGY-3 or higher must have passed USMLE Step 3 before appointment

About Course

The Combined Neurology/Psychiatry Residency at UMass Chan Medical School is a 6-year integrated residency program providing comprehensive training in both Neurology and Psychiatry. The program combines clinical training in neurological and psychiatric disorders, with progressive responsibility across inpatient, outpatient, consultation-liaison, emergency, and specialty services. Residents receive dedicated exposure to neuropsychiatry, allowing them to manage complex conditions involving both neurological and psychiatric aspects, and graduate with training designed to support board eligibility in both Neurology and Psychiatry.

Admission Process

Submit the application through ERAS
Submit the medical school transcript, MSPE/Dean's Letter, CV, personal statement, examination scores and 3 recommendation letters
Combined Neurology/Psychiatry applicants are interviewed by both the Neurology and Psychiatry programs, typically over two days
Applicants participate in the applicable NRMP Match
Selected candidates must complete UMass Chan GME credentialing, licensing and other appointment requirements before starting residency
