Combined Anatomic Pathology / Clinical Pathology Residency Program

The Combined Anatomic Pathology / Clinical Pathology Residency Program (AP/CP) at UCSF is a four-year residency program that provides comprehensive training in both anatomic pathology and clinical pathology. Residents develop expertise in the diagnosis of disease through surgical pathology, cytopathology, autopsy pathology, hematopathology, microbiology, immunology, transfusion medicine, chemistry, and molecular pathology. The program combines hands-on laboratory and diagnostic experience with structured teaching, multidisciplinary collaboration, research opportunities, and preparation for independent practice or academic careers.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
2. Submit the required application materials, including CV, personal statement, medical school transcript, MSPE/Dean’s Letter, and letters of recommendation
3. Submit required USMLE/COMLEX examination information
4. The UCSF Pathology Residency Program reviews applications and selects candidates for interview
5. Selected applicants participate in the interview process
6. Applicants submit their preferred programs through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)
7. Successful candidates enter the 4-year Combined Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) residency through the Match
