Cardiac Surgery Residency

The Cardiac Surgery Residency Program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is a three-year Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program designed to provide comprehensive training in advanced cardiac and thoracic surgical care. The program trains residents in adult cardiac surgery, congenital cardiac surgery, and general thoracic surgery through extensive clinical experience, operative training, multidisciplinary care, and research opportunities. Residents gain expertise in complex procedures including coronary artery bypass surgery, valve surgery, minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support (VAD/ECMO), and aortic disease management. The program aims to develop skilled academic cardiothoracic surgeons capable of providing advanced surgical treatment for complex cardiovascular and thoracic conditions.

1. Applicants must submit their application through the designated residency application system (ERAS)
2. Candidates must register and participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match process

1. The program reviews applications and selects qualified candidates for interviews
2. Selected applicants participate in interviews with the cardiothoracic surgery faculty
3. Final candidates are ranked by the program and selected through the NRMP Match process
4. Matched residents begin their cardiothoracic surgery residency training at Johns Hopkins according to the academic schedule
