The Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is one of the premier cardiothoracic surgical training programs in the United States. Residents receive clinical training at renowned institutions including Tisch Hospital, Kimmel Pavilion, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, and the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System. The program exposes trainees to highly diverse patient populations and complex surgical cases involving coronary artery disease, valvular disorders, thoracic malignancies, heart failure, lung disease, and esophageal conditions.
The curriculum combines progressive operative responsibility with extensive didactic education, simulation-based learning, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Residents gain hands-on experience in ventricular assist devices (VADs), transcatheter valve procedures, thoracic oncology surgery, transplantation, and advanced minimally invasive cardiothoracic techniques.
