Cardiothoracic Surgery residency

The Thoracic Surgery Residency Program at UCSF School of Medicine is an advanced surgical training program focused on the comprehensive management of diseases of the chest, lungs, esophagus, mediastinum, and chest wall. Residents receive extensive operative and clinical experience in thoracic oncology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, esophageal surgery, airway surgery, and complex thoracic procedures. The program combines high-volume clinical training with multidisciplinary patient care, progressive operative responsibility, and opportunities for research and academic development.

5. ECFMG J-1 visa status verification, where applicable
6. Verification of U.S. residency status
7. Valid California Medical Board Authorization Letter
4. Register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)
5. Applications are reviewed by the program and selected candidates are invited for an interview
6. Candidates interview with the Program Director and cardiothoracic surgery faculty
7. Successful candidates participate in the NRMP Thoracic Surgery Residency Match
8. UCSF generally accepts 1–2 candidates per year through the NRMP Match.
