The Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year advanced fellowship designed for physicians who have completed General Cardiology training and want specialized expertise in advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and pulmonary vascular disease. Fellows receive comprehensive inpatient and outpatient training through specialized heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, ventricular assist device, transplant, and biopsy clinics. Training also includes management of complex cardiogenic shock using temporary mechanical circulatory support such as Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Impella, and TandemHeart, along with exposure to cardio-obstetrics, cardio-oncology, amyloid and infiltrative cardiomyopathies, and advanced valvular disease. The program also provides opportunities for clinical, translational, population, and basic cardiovascular research.
