The Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine, Chapel Hill is an advanced subspecialty training program designed to provide specialized expertise in the evaluation and management of patients with advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathies, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support therapies. The fellowship focuses on comprehensive care of patients with complex heart failure conditions, including pre-transplant evaluation, transplant medicine, post-transplant management, ventricular assist device (VAD) therapy, cardiogenic shock management, and advanced heart failure treatment strategies. Fellows receive extensive clinical training through inpatient and outpatient care, multidisciplinary heart failure teams, advanced cardiac imaging, hemodynamic assessment, research activities, and collaboration with specialists in cardiology, cardiac surgery, and transplant medicine. The program prepares physicians to provide expert care for patients with end-stage heart disease and pursue careers in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.

Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellows receive GME-based salary support with benefits during the fellowship training period.

Eligibility
- Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program.
- Candidates must hold a Medical Degree (MD, DO, or equivalent international medical degree).
- Applicants should be board eligible or board certified in Cardiovascular Disease (as applicable).
- Candidates must have completed training in general cardiology with clinical experience in cardiovascular disease management.
- Applicants should have interest and experience in:
- Advanced heart failure management
- Cardiac transplantation
- Mechanical circulatory support (LVAD/VAD) therapy
- Cardiomyopathy and cardiogenic shock management
- International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must meet applicable requirements such as ECFMG certification and visa eligibility requirements, if applicable.
- Candidates with academic achievements, research experience, and involvement in heart failure/transplant cardiology are preferred.
