The Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) specialization at UTMB prepares nurses for advanced practice focused on primary care across adult and older adult populations. Coursework integrates advanced health assessment, advanced pharmacology, pathophysiology, health promotion, disease prevention, clinical decision-making, and primary care management of acute and chronic conditions. Students engage in a series of supervised clinical practicums in primary care settings, community clinics, and outpatient facilities, building competency in patient evaluation, therapeutic treatment planning, health education, and care coordination. The AGPCNP graduate is prepared to provide evidence-based, patient-centered primary care, collaborate within interdisciplinary teams, and contribute to improved population health outcomes. Graduates typically pursue national certification and state licensure as Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners.
