The Vascular Surgery Integrated Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited integrated residency that combines broad general surgery training with progressive specialisation in vascular and endovascular surgery. Established in 2009, it is among the earliest integrated vascular surgery residency programs in the United States. Residents train primarily at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Jesse Brown VA Medical Centre, and Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital, gaining extensive experience with complex arterial and venous disorders. The curriculum emphasises graded operative autonomy in both open and endovascular techniques, including aortic aneurysm repair, carotid interventions, limb salvage, dialysis access, venous surgery, and hybrid vascular procedures. A distinctive feature of the program is the opportunity to pursue up to two years of dedicated academic development through NIH-supported research pathways in basic science, translational research, health services and outcomes research, or biomedical engineering. Graduates are well prepared for board certification in Vascular Surgery and careers in academic medicine, tertiary referral centres, or advanced vascular practice.
