Transitional Year Residency Program

1. MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
2. Completion of core clinical rotations in medical school
3. Passing scores on USMLE or COMLEX exams (Step 1 and Step 2 CK/Core)
4. Participation in ERAS application and NRMP matching
5. Institutional credentialing and verification of education and training

The Transitional Year Residency Program at Sky Ridge Medical Center is a one-year postgraduate clinical training designed to give a strong foundation across multiple disciplines of medicine and surgery. The curriculum provides rotation experiences in key areas such as internal medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics, critical care, obstetrics/gynecology, and others, depending on program structure. Residents work with experienced faculty in both inpatient and outpatient settings to develop clinical judgment, patient management skills, procedural competence, and interdisciplinary communication. Didactic sessions, case discussions, hands-on patient care, and evaluations form essential components of the year. This residency is typically used as a prerequisite year for specialties that require broad clinical exposure before starting specialty training. Graduates of this program are well prepared to transition into their chosen specialty residencies and thrive in diverse healthcare environments.
