The Social Emergency Medicine Fellowship at UAB focuses on identifying, researching, and addressing social determinants of health affecting patients who seek emergency care. The fellowship provides training in three core areas: research, education, and advocacy. Fellows develop skills in clinical and public health research, population health interventions, medical education, health policy, community outreach, and leadership. The curriculum is personalized according to the fellow’s interests and requires at least one publication-quality research project. Fellows may also pursue a master's degree during a two-year fellowship and can combine the program with Global Emergency Medicine training
