Resident Global Ophthalmology Program

• Must be enrolled in the UIC Ophthalmology Residency Program
• Must have an interest in global ophthalmology, international eye care, and underserved community eye health
• Residents interested in developing clinical, research, and educational projects related to global ophthalmology are eligible to participate
• Should demonstrate commitment to improving access to ophthalmic care through global health initiatives
• Ability to participate in international exchange programs, outreach activities, and global ophthalmology projects offered through the department

The Resident Global Ophthalmology Program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM), Chicago is a specialized training track designed to provide ophthalmology residents with exposure to global eye health, international ophthalmic care, and vision-related healthcare challenges worldwide. The program supports residents interested in developing clinical and global ophthalmology projects and offers opportunities such as international exchange programs with partner institutions, including Keio University in Tokyo, Japan, and Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Brazil. Residents gain experience in different healthcare systems, observe diverse ophthalmic clinical practices, participate in global health education, and engage in research or outreach activities focused on improving access to eye care in underserved communities. The program is integrated with the ophthalmology residency curriculum and aims to prepare future ophthalmologists for careers involving global eye care, research, and international collaboration.
