Residency in Primary Care Pediatrics

• Medical degree (MD/DO or equivalent) from an accredited institution
• Eligible for enrollment in a U.S. ACGME-accredited residency program
• Must meet UNC GME requirements for residency appointment
• IMG applicants must meet ECFMG certification requirements
• Demonstrated interest in primary care pediatrics and child healthcare
• Strong academic record, clinical skills, professionalism, and communication abilities are considered during selection
• Must be eligible for required medical licensure before completion of residency training

The Pediatric Primary Care Residency Program at UNC School of Medicine (UNCSOM), Chapel Hill is a specialized pediatric residency training pathway focused on preparing physicians for careers in comprehensive primary care pediatrics. The program emphasizes preventive healthcare, child development, wellness visits, chronic disease management, behavioral health, and family-centered care for infants, children, and adolescents. Residents receive broad clinical exposure through outpatient pediatric clinics, inpatient pediatrics, newborn care, emergency services, and pediatric subspecialty rotations. The curriculum focuses on developing skills in longitudinal patient care, community health, advocacy, quality improvement, and evidence-based pediatric practice. Graduates are prepared to provide high-quality pediatric care in community practices, academic settings, and healthcare systems or pursue additional pediatric subspecialty training.
