The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is one of the premier ACGME-accredited residency programs in the United States, designed to train future leaders in clinical medicine, research, education, and healthcare innovation. Based primarily at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, the program provides extensive exposure to a diverse patient population and a broad spectrum of medical conditions ranging from common chronic illnesses to highly complex tertiary and quaternary care cases. Residents receive rigorous training in inpatient medicine, ambulatory care, intensive care medicine, and all major internal medicine subspecialties. The curriculum combines hands-on patient care with structured educational conferences, morning reports, grand rounds, simulation training, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly activities. The program emphasizes evidence-based medicine, patient-centered care, health equity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and physician wellness. Residents benefit from mentorship by nationally and internationally recognized faculty and have access to extensive research opportunities across the Feinberg School of Medicine. Specialized pathways and tracks support career development in primary care, physician-scientist training, medical education, hospital medicine, global health, and healthcare leadership. Graduates consistently match into highly competitive fellowships and are exceptionally prepared for American Board of Internal Medicine certification, academic careers, subspecialty training, hospital medicine practice, and leadership roles within healthcare systems worldwide.
