Registered Nurses Residency Program

1. Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN strongly preferred)
2. Valid RN licensure within Delaware or other compact state at time of hire
3. BLS certification
4. Typically designed for newly licensed Registered Nurses (new grads) with minimal prior experience
5. Commitment to attend all scheduled residency sessions during the year

The RN Residency Program at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware, is a 12-month structured transition-to-practice program aimed at helping newly licensed registered nurses grow into confident, competent pediatric clinicians. It integrates classroom discussions, simulation-based learning, and unit-based clinical orientation linked with peer support, mentorship, and professional development. The goal is to strengthen both nursing knowledge and hands-on clinical skills for pediatric practice across a range of settings, including general inpatient units, specialty areas (e.g., hematology/oncology, ED), and simulation labs. Eight residency sessions — combining didactic learning and simulation — complement clinical unit orientation and skills confirmation. A group project and graduation (Legacy Day) help solidify learning outcomes. Nemours’s residency model supports collaborative care, interprofessional teamwork, evidence-based practice, and nurse retention.
