Fellowship in Regional Anesthesia

• Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Anesthesiology
• MD/DO or equivalent (ECFMG required for international graduates)
• Board eligible or board certified in Anesthesiology
• Eligible for Illinois medical license
• Strong interest in regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine

The Regional Anesthesia Fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago is a 1-year (12-month) ACGME-accredited advanced training program that focuses on developing expertise in regional anesthesiology and acute pain management. The fellowship provides extensive hands-on experience in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia techniques, including a high volume of single-shot nerve blocks, continuous catheter placements, and neuraxial procedures such as epidurals and spinal anesthesia. Fellows rotate through regional anesthesia services, acute pain service, and chronic pain rotations, gaining comprehensive exposure to perioperative pain management in both inpatient and high-throughput outpatient surgical settings. The program emphasizes progressive responsibility, where fellows gradually move from performing procedures to supervising residents and managing acute pain services, while also enhancing their clinical, teaching, and leadership skills, preparing them for independent practice and advanced roles in regional anesthesia and perioperative medicine.
