The Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited five-year residency that prepares physicians for careers in academic medicine, advanced clinical practice, and subspecialty fellowship training. Residents receive progressive responsibility while training at nationally recognised institutions, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, providing exposure to a wide variety of patient populations and complex head and neck disorders. The curriculum combines high-volume operative experience with structured didactic education, simulation-based learning, anatomy laboratories, temporal bone dissection, endoscopic sinus surgery training, and multidisciplinary tumor board participation. A distinctive feature of the program is its dedicated PGY-3 research block, allowing residents to pursue meaningful clinical or translational research under faculty mentorship and present their work at regional and national meetings. Residents also benefit from weekly Grand Rounds, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality conferences, and speciality educational courses that strengthen both clinical and academic development. Graduates are well prepared for certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and frequently pursue fellowships in rhinology, neurotology, facial plastic surgery, head and neck oncology, pediatric otolaryngology, and laryngology.
