Orthodontics Residency Program

1. Applicants must hold a dental degree such as Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S. or an equivalent dental degree.
2. At least one year of postdoctoral education after dental school is advantageous but not mandatory.
3. Applicants who graduate from dental school in the same year they apply may also be considered.

The Advanced Education Program in Orthodontics at UAB is a 30-month postdoctoral residency that combines didactic education, laboratory training, clinical practice, and research. Residents receive training in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning, comprehensive orthodontic treatment, clear aligner therapy, early treatment, multidisciplinary care, orthognathic surgery, cleft lip and palate treatment, craniofacial syndromes, temporomandibular disorders, orthodontic biomechanics, three-dimensional imaging, and temporary anchorage devices. The program leads to a Certificate in Orthodontics, with an optional Master of Science in Dentistry through completion of an original research thesis.
