MS General Surgery

1. Recognized MBBS degree with a completed internship.
2. Valid registration with State Medical Council or NMC.
3. Qualifying NEET-PG score (must meet minimum percentile criteria per category).
4. Participation in counselling (MCC/State) for seat allocation based on rank.

The MS – General Surgery program at Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital & Research Institute, Chennai provides comprehensive and structured surgical training in line with the curriculum prescribed by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. It equips residents with the knowledge and skills to handle a range of surgical conditions with expertise in both open and minimally invasive procedures. The department emphasizes hands-on clinical exposure, pre-operative and post-operative patient management, and the development of sound surgical judgment and techniques. Core areas of training include the management of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, breast, soft tissue, hernia and anorectal disorders, thyroid and other endocrine surgeries, trauma care, and emergency surgery. Academic activities include seminars, case discussions, journal clubs, clinical rounds, and ongoing research projects that foster analytical thinking and evidence-based practice. The program prepares graduates to work independently as competent surgeons, pursue super-specializations, or engage in academic and research roles.
