MS General Surgery

The MS General Surgery program at MVJ Medical College and Research Hospital (MVJMC&RH), Bangalore, is designed to train competent and ethical surgeons with strong clinical and operative skills. The department provides extensive exposure to elective and emergency surgical cases through outpatient services, inpatient wards, operation theatres, and trauma care units. Residents receive hands-on training in preoperative evaluation, surgical procedures, postoperative care, and management of surgical complications under the guidance of experienced faculty members. The curriculum follows the competency-based postgraduate medical education framework prescribed by the National Medical Commission. Academic activities such as seminars, case presentations, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality meetings, and surgical audits are integral to the training program. The attached teaching hospital caters to a diverse patient population, ensuring exposure to a wide range of common and complex surgical conditions. Emphasis is also placed on research methodology, thesis work, ethical surgical practice, and professional development, preparing graduates for independent surgical practice, academics, and super-specialty training.

1. MBBS degree from an NMC-recognized medical college
2. Completion of compulsory rotating internship on or before the prescribed cutoff date
3. Permanent or provisional registration with NMC / State Medical Council
4. Qualified NEET-PG examination
5. Admission through centralised counselling (KEA / MCC)
