Medical Genetics and Genomics Residency Program

1. Applicants must hold a medical degree (Doctor of Medicine or equivalent) and be eligible for appointment to a Stanford Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited residency program.
2. Applicants must have completed at least 1 year of residency training in another ACGME-accredited primary specialty in the United States, or equivalent training in Canada.
3. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada must meet Stanford Graduate Medical Education eligibility requirements, including applicable Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) requirements.
4. Applicants should have an interest in pursuing a career in Medical Genetics and Genomics.
5. Applicants must provide the required application materials, including a curriculum vitae (CV), three letters of reference, United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores, and a personal statement.

Stanford Medicine’s Division of Medical Genetics, within the Department of Pediatrics, provides specialized care for patients and families with rare genetic conditions and supports education, research, diagnosis, and management of genetic disorders. The Medical Genetics & Genomics Residency Program offers two years of advanced training with diverse clinical exposure, hands-on learning, and access to biochemical, cytogenetic, molecular, and genomic laboratories. Residents also participate in research activities, present their work at professional conferences, and are encouraged to contribute to scientific publications.

1. Submit the application through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) Fellowship.
2. Apply for the correct Medical Genetics Residency program and cross-reference the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) program number 1820130F0, as Stanford also has a combined Pediatrics-Medical Genetics program.
3. Submit the required curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, United States Medical Licensing Examination scores, and personal statement.
4. Applications for training beginning July 2027 are accepted through Electronic Residency Application Service Fellowship starting in July 2026.
5. Stanford reviews applications and invites selected/promising applicants for interviews in early fall.
6. Participate in the virtual interview, which includes a program overview, interviews, and an optional virtual social hour with residents.
7. Participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match for placement into the residency program.
