Overview
The Medical Genetics & Genomics Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a highly specialized ACGME-accredited training program dedicated to preparing physicians for leadership roles in genomic medicine and clinical genetics. The program is centered within the Division of Genetics, Genomics and Metabolism and provides extensive exposure to both pediatric and adult genetic disorders through multidisciplinary clinical experiences. Most training occurs at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the United States. Residents work alongside genetic counselors, advanced practice providers, dietitians, laboratory scientists, social workers, and subspecialty physicians while caring for patients with rare genetic conditions, congenital anomalies, inherited metabolic diseases, chromosomal disorders, and complex genomic diagnoses. The curriculum integrates clinical genetics, laboratory genetics, genomic technologies, research training, and interdisciplinary education. Residents gain experience in advanced molecular diagnostics, genomic sequencing interpretation, genetic counseling principles, and personalized medicine approaches. The program emphasizes scholarly activity, clinical investigation, teaching, and leadership development within the rapidly evolving field of genomic medicine. Graduates are well prepared for ABMGG board certification and careers in academic medicine, clinical genetics practice, biotechnology, genomic research, public health genetics, and industry leadership.
