MD Ophthalmology

MD – Ophthalmology is a comprehensive postgraduate training program designed to develop specialists with expertise in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of eye diseases and visual disorders. The program provides extensive exposure to outpatient services, inpatient care, operation theatres, and emergency ophthalmic services. Residents receive hands-on training in clinical examination techniques, refraction, diagnostic imaging, and microsurgical procedures.

Training includes management of cataract, glaucoma, corneal disorders, retinal diseases, uveitis, pediatric ophthalmology, and neuro-ophthalmology. Surgical exposure typically covers cataract surgery, minor ocular procedures, and assisted experience in advanced surgeries. Academic activities such as seminars, case presentations, journal clubs, clinical audits, and research culminating in a mandatory dissertation are integral to the program. Graduates are prepared for independent clinical practice, academic careers, or further subspecialty fellowships.
