Overview

  • The MD Microbiology program at Adesh Medical College & Hospital is a 3-year postgraduate course designed to develop expertise in laboratory diagnosis, the management of infectious diseases, and research in microbiology. The Microbiology department is well-faculty-ed, with a Head of Department and several associate & assistant professors overseeing both academic and practical training.
  • Students get trained in areas including bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology, molecular diagnostics (PCR, real-time PCR), hospital infection control, antimicrobial stewardship programs, and diagnostic lab management.
  • The department is equipped with a BSL-2 molecular lab, automated diagnostic equipment, and active participation in research publications. It also supports clinical and hospital laboratory services, serving both inpatient and outpatient diagnostic demands.
  • Upon completion, graduates can work in hospital laboratories, diagnostic centres, research labs, public health departments, or continue with fellowships/specialisations in infectious diseases, etc. The degree is recognised nationally under NMC regulations.

Eligibility

  • MBBS degree or equivalent, recognised by NMC.
  • Completion of the compulsory internship by a specified deadline.
  • Valid medical registration (provisional or permanent) from NMC / State Medical Council.
  • NEET-PG qualification with required percentile/marks:
    • General category: ~ 50 percentile.
    • Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC etc.): lower percentile (≈ 40).
    • Ur-PWD etc. have specific cut-offs (≈ 45) depending on NMC regulations.

Admission Process:

  1. Complete MBBS and the required internship.
  2. Register for and appear in the NEET-PG exam.
  3. Obtain NEET-PG score and check if it meets the cut-off for MD Microbiology (for your category).
  4. Participate in PG counselling (state or national quota as applicable) for allotment of seats.
  5. After seat allotment, complete document verification, including MBBS degree, internship certificate, registration certificate, NEET PG rank card.
  6. Pay the required fees, enrol in the course.
  7. Orientation, begin academic & lab rotations as per departmental schedule.
