MD Forensic Medicine

Overview

• Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur has a well-established Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology. It handles a large workload of medico-legal cases, including autopsies (living and deceased, traumatized, burnt, skeletonized remains etc.), toxicology work, and expert legal opinions for state cases.
   
• During the MD Forensic Medicine programme, students are trained in various aspects: performing and interpreting post-mortem examinations, injury interpretation, medico-legal reporting, handling of medico-legal evidence, working with legal systems, and toxicological assessments. The exposure to real-case work is high due to the college’s role as a referral centre for medico-legal cases in the state. The department also supports teaching MBBS students (in professional years), conducts seminars, workshops, and collaborates with legal and police departments where needed. Research/thesis work is included during the 3-year training. The infrastructure supports both theoretical and practical components, including labs and appropriate medico-legal facilities.

Eligibility

• MBBS from an institution recognized by NMC. 
• Completion of one-year rotatory internship on or before the cutoff date for the admission year. 
• Valid registration with NMC or State Medical Council. (Standard requirement; though specific mention was not found for this course in all sources.)
• Qualify NEET PG examination and meet the required cutoff percentile / marks for Forensic Medicine at JNMC.
