The MD – Community Medicine programme at Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW), Pune is a postgraduate medical specialty approved by the National Medical Commission and offered from the 2025 academic year onwards. The programme is designed to train public health specialists capable of addressing health needs at individual, family, and community levels. Training encompasses epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, nutrition, occupational health, national health programmes, health policy, and health systems management. Residents receive extensive field-based training through urban and rural health centres attached to the institute, enabling real-world exposure to primary healthcare delivery. The course also emphasizes research methodology, surveillance, outbreak investigation, health education, and undergraduate teaching.
