Internal Medicine Pediatrics Residency Program

The Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program at UAB Heersink School of Medicine provides four years of integrated training in both internal medicine and pediatrics. The program offers comprehensive clinical experience across inpatient and outpatient care, primary care, subspecialty services, critical care, and transitional care for adolescents and adults. Residents receive mentorship and opportunities in research, quality improvement, medical education, global health, and other areas of professional development, preparing them for careers in primary care, hospital medicine, subspecialty practice, or academic medicine.

1. Apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service); UAB accepts Med-Peds residency applications only through ERAS.
2. Submit the required application documents, including the ERAS application, personal statement, Dean's Letter, three letters of recommendation, medical school transcript, USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 score reports, and photograph.
3. The program reviews applications through a holistic review process.
4. Selected applicants are invited for an interview.
5. PGY-1 (Postgraduate Year 1) positions are filled through the NRMP (National Resident Matching Program).
6. Successful applicants begin the four-year Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program.
