Internal Medicine Pediatrics Residency Program

• Applicants must have an MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school
• International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must obtain ECFMG certification before starting residency
• Applicants must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
• Must provide USMLE Step 1/Step 2 or COMLEX Level 1/Level 2 scores (both exams are accepted)
• Must submit required recommendation letters (generally 3–4 letters, including letters commenting on clinical skills from Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Med-Peds rotations)
• Applicants should demonstrate clinical experience, academic performance, and commitment to combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics training

The Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Residency Program at University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM), Chicago is a 4-year ACGME-accredited combined residency program that provides comprehensive training in both adult and pediatric medicine. The program is designed to develop physicians capable of caring for patients across all age groups through alternating rotations in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Residents receive training in inpatient and outpatient care, primary care, subspecialty medicine, critical care, preventive health, and complex disease management. The curriculum follows the requirements of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), with additional opportunities for research, quality improvement, simulation training, and academic development. Graduates are prepared for careers in primary care, hospital medicine, academic medicine, and fellowship training.
