General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM)

Overview

The Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) at GMC Jammu is a structured three-year programme that prepares students for nursing roles in hospitals, clinics and community health settings. The curriculum covers foundational subjects such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, nursing foundations, medical-surgical nursing, paediatric nursing, obstetric & gynaecological nursing, community health nursing, and midwifery practice. Students receive both classroom instruction and practical training through clinical postings in associated hospitals and community health programmes. The programme is overseen by the Jammu & Kashmir Paramedical & Nursing Council, ensuring compliance with nursing education standards in the region. Eligibility

• Passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board with minimum marks (often ~40% open category; lower for reserved category) in the qualifying exam.
• Age between ~17 and 35 years at time of admission (for standard entry) unless lateral entry.
• The candidate must be medically fit.
• For lateral entry: the candidate must possess a recognised ANM / FMPHW / MMPHW certificate (registered) and meet the marks criteria. 
• Domicile of UT J&K / UT Ladakh may be required (as per state counselling rules).
