Fellowship Program in Forensic Psychiatry

The Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine is a one-year, full-time fellowship designed to provide comprehensive training in forensic psychiatry and prepare fellows for clinical practice in forensic and correctional settings, teaching, research, system consultation, and academic careers. Training combines didactic seminars with supervised practical experience in forensic evaluations, forensic report writing, civil and criminal cases, correctional psychiatry, competency restoration, fitness-for-duty examinations, independent medical examinations, ethical issues, and court testimony. Fellows also participate in mock trials, interdisciplinary training with forensic psychology and legal professionals, research, and case-law analysis.

2. Applications for the 2027–28 cycle can be submitted from July 2, 2026
3. Submit required academic and professional documents, including:
4. Medical school transcript and diploma
5. Graduate transcript, if applicable
6. MSPE/Dean's Letter
7. Psychiatry residency completion certificate
8. CV and personal statement
9. ECFMG certification, if applicable
10. Medical and DEA licenses, if applicable
11. USMLE/COMLEX score documentation
12. Forensic report writing sample and/or relevant publications
13. Three letters of recommendation, including one from the residency training director
4. Selected applicants participate in virtual interviews with program faculty and current fellows
5. The program initially fills positions through the NRMP Psychiatry Fellowship Match – Forensic Psychiatry
6. For the 2027–28 cycle, interviews are scheduled from July 16 to September 30, 2026, with Match Day on October 21, 2026
