About Course

The Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware, is an ACGME-accredited 1-year clinical fellowship that prepares physicians to deliver expert supportive care to seriously ill patients of all ages, with significant pediatric training emphasis while collaborating across adult and pediatric settings. Fellows participate in a diverse clinical experience — including inpatient pediatric palliative care at Nemours, adult palliative care consults with ChristianaCare Health System, perinatal palliative care, home hospice rotations with Delaware Hospice, and long-term care experiences.
The curriculum emphasises symptom management, communication skills, ethics, interdisciplinary teamwork, and family-centred care, with structured didactics, workshops, journal clubs, and ethics conferences enhancing clinical learning. Fellows work alongside physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains in providing comprehensive care tailored to patient goals and values. Upon completion, physicians are well-prepared for board certification in Hospice & Palliative Medicine and practice in academic or clinical settings that support patients with complex and life-limiting conditions.
