Fellowship of American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (FAAHPM)

1. Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or other eligible primary specialty.
2. Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Oklahoma.
3. Valid ECFMG certification for international medical graduates (if applicable).
4. Submission of application through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service).
5. Participation in the NRMP Fellowship Match or institutional selection process.
6. Demonstrated interest and experience in hospice, palliative care, or supportive care.

The Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is a clinically focused one-year postgraduate training program designed to prepare physicians for advanced practice in palliative care and supportive medicine. The program integrates comprehensive training in symptom management, pain control, communication skills, end-of-life care planning, and interdisciplinary coordination. Fellows rotate through inpatient palliative consult services, outpatient clinics, hospice programs, and community-based palliative teams to gain exposure to diverse patient populations and care settings. Emphasis is placed on effective communication with patients and families, ethical decision-making, cultural competency, and holistic care approaches. The curriculum also includes didactic seminars, case conferences, quality improvement projects, and interdisciplinary collaborations involving nursing, social work, spiritual care, and rehabilitation services. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in palliative care programs, hospital systems, academic settings, or community health services, and are qualified for board eligibility in Hospice & Palliative Medicine.
