Fellowship in Vascular Surgery

1. MD/DO or equivalent medical degree
2. Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency program.
3. Applicants may apply during their 4th or 5th clinical year of General Surgery residency.
4. Must meet the applicable ACGME eligibility requirements.
5. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must meet applicable ECFMG requirements.
6. The program sponsors J-1 visas only and does not sponsor H-1B visas.

The Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School is a 2-year ACGME-accredited fellowship designed to train specialists in the medical, endovascular, and open surgical management of vascular disease. Fellows gain extensive experience in aortic disease, aneurysms, carotid stenosis, peripheral arterial disease, traumatic vascular injuries, dialysis access, venous disease, and thoracic aortic pathology, with a balanced mix of open and endovascular procedures. Training is provided across multiple hospitals and includes noninvasive vascular testing, multidisciplinary conferences, morbidity and mortality conferences, journal clubs, vascular surgery didactics, and pulsatile cadaver laboratory training. Fellows are expected to complete more than 750 operative cases and also have opportunities for clinical research and scholarly activity.

1. Apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service).
2. Submit all required application documents electronically through ERAS.
3. Participate in the NRMP (National Resident Matching Program).
4. Applications are reviewed and eligible candidates are selected for interviews.
5. Successful candidates are matched through the standard NRMP matching pathway.
6. Fellows begin the program on August 1 of the year following the match.
7. The program offers 2 fellowship positions per year.
