About Course

The Vascular Surgery Fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a highly regarded two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship designed to train future leaders in vascular and endovascular surgery. The program follows a philosophy of progressive independence and graduated responsibility, allowing fellows to develop the skills necessary for independent vascular surgical practice.
Fellows rotate through three major teaching hospitals, including NYU Langone's Kimmel Pavilion, Bellevue Hospital, and the Manhattan VA Medical Center. This diverse training environment exposes trainees to a wide range of vascular conditions, patient populations, and surgical challenges.
The fellowship provides extensive operative experience in both open and endovascular surgery. Fellows routinely participate in advanced procedures such as EVAR, FEVAR, TEVAR, carotid interventions, lower-extremity revascularization, complex bypass operations, and thoracic outlet decompression procedures.
A major strength of the program is its exceptionally high procedural volume, which significantly exceeds national minimum training requirements. Fellows gain substantial exposure to complex aortic disease, peripheral arterial disease, venous disorders, vascular trauma, dialysis access surgery, and limb salvage procedures.
Training extends beyond the operating room and includes dedicated experience in outpatient vascular intervention centers, vein centers, vascular laboratories, and multidisciplinary vascular clinics. Fellows become proficient in comprehensive vascular patient management from diagnosis through long-term follow-up.
Research is strongly emphasized throughout fellowship training. Fellows work closely with faculty mentors on clinical outcomes studies, quality improvement initiatives, vascular device research, and basic science investigations. Research support includes statistical consultation, grant development assistance, and participation in national vascular quality programs.
Educational activities include weekly vascular surgery conferences, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality conferences, aortic disease conferences, wound care conferences, teaching rounds, and multidisciplinary case discussions. Fellows also receive complimentary registration to the nationally recognized VEITHsymposium.
Graduates are exceptionally well prepared for board certification in vascular surgery and pursue careers in academic medical centers, major vascular institutes, private practice groups, and leadership positions in vascular and endovascular surgery.
