Fellowship in Stroke

The Stroke Center Fellowship at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Brooklyn is an advanced fellowship program focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cerebrovascular diseases and stroke-related conditions. The program provides comprehensive training in acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke management, inpatient stroke unit care, outpatient stroke clinics, stroke prevention, neurovascular imaging, emergency stroke evaluation, and multidisciplinary stroke care. Fellows gain hands-on clinical experience through stroke consultations, participation in stroke codes, management of patients receiving thrombolytic and endovascular therapies, and exposure to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives. The fellowship prepares physicians for advanced practice in Vascular Neurology/Stroke Medicine and eligibility for Vascular Neurology subspecialty certification.

5. Three Letters of Recommendation from faculty of the most recent training program (including one from the Program Director)
6. Dean’s Letter (if available)
7. Medical School Diploma
8. Medical School Transcript
9. USMLE or COMLEX Scores
10. ECFMG Certificate (for International Medical Graduates)
3. Applications are reviewed by the Vascular Neurology/Stroke Fellowship Selection Committee
4. Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview
5. Final selection is completed based on clinical training, academic background, recommendations, research interest, and overall suitability for the fellowship
6. Selected fellows begin the 1-year ACGME-accredited Stroke Fellowship training (with an optional additional research year)
