Fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine

• Must hold a medical degree (MD / MBBS / DO or equivalent)
• Must have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited residency program in one of the following specialties:
• Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) (most common pathway)
• Neurology / Neurosurgery
• Orthopedics
• Internal Medicine / Family Medicine
• Emergency Medicine
• Anesthesiology
• General Surgery / Plastic Surgery / Urology
• Pediatrics
• Must be board-eligible or board-certified in the respective primary specialty
• Must meet U.S. medical licensure requirements for fellowship training
• International Medical Graduates must have valid ECFMG certification (if applicable)
• Demonstrated interest in spinal cord injury care, rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary management
• Must submit required documents such as CV, personal statement, and letters of recommendation

The Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (in collaboration with the Kennedy Krieger Institute) is a 1-year ACGME-accredited subspecialty program that provides advanced training in the comprehensive management of patients with spinal cord injury and spinal cord dysfunction. The fellowship offers exposure to both adult and pediatric populations, covering acute, chronic, traumatic, and non-traumatic conditions. It emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach focusing on medical management, rehabilitation strategies, prevention of complications, and functional recovery, with specialized training in areas such as urologic care, spasticity management, musculoskeletal health, and neural restoration techniques. Fellows also engage in research, teaching, and academic activities, preparing them for leadership roles in rehabilitation medicine and spinal cord injury care.
