Overview

  • The Rheumatology Fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is one of the premier rheumatology training programs in the United States. The ACGME-accredited fellowship is designed to prepare future leaders in clinical rheumatology, medical education, and autoimmune disease research. The program emphasizes excellence in patient care, scientific discovery, and academic development.
  • Fellows receive broad exposure to a diverse patient population through rotations at several major academic medical centers. Clinical training encompasses both inpatient consultation services and outpatient specialty clinics, allowing fellows to develop expertise across the full spectrum of rheumatic diseases.
  • The first year focuses heavily on clinical rheumatology through hospital consultations and ambulatory care experiences. Fellows evaluate and manage complex autoimmune, inflammatory, and musculoskeletal disorders under close faculty supervision.
  • The second year includes advanced outpatient training and reduced clinical responsibilities to allow increased scholarly activity. Fellows participate in research projects, publications, and academic presentations while continuing their clinical development.
  • The fellowship offers both Clinical and Research Tracks. The Clinical Track prepares physicians for excellence in patient care and medical education, while the Research Track provides additional years of protected research training for those pursuing careers in academic medicine and scientific investigation.
  • Specialized clinical experiences include dedicated Lupus Clinics, Arthritis Clinics, musculoskeletal medicine programs, and subspecialty rheumatology services. Fellows work alongside internationally recognized faculty with expertise in lupus, vasculitis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases.
  • Educational activities include rheumatology conferences, seminars, journal clubs, grand rounds, pathology reviews, imaging conferences, and research presentations. Fellows are encouraged to present their work nationally and participate actively in scholarly activities.
  • Graduates of the program have gone on to leadership positions at academic institutions throughout the United States, including division chiefs, fellowship directors, physician-scientists, and nationally recognized rheumatology experts.
