The Pediatric Obesity Fellowship at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware is a two-year advanced subspecialty fellowship focused on training physicians to be clinical and academic leaders in pediatric obesity medicine — one of the few programs of its kind in the country. Clinical training dedicates approximately 40% of the fellow’s time to evidence-based, family-centered care of children and adolescents with obesity and related health issues, working with interdisciplinary teams including psychologists, dietitians, exercise physiologists, social workers and surgeons. The remaining 60% of time is devoted to research training, including opportunities for formally pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) or equivalent research degree through affiliated academic partners such as Jefferson College of Population Health, as well as mentorship for an independent research project tailored to the fellow’s interests. Fellows gain expertise in clinical assessment, behavioural and lifestyle interventions, community health, outcomes research, and population health strategies in pediatric obesity care.
