Fellowship in Pediatric Hemato Oncology

The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine provides three years of specialized training in the diagnosis and management of childhood cancers and blood disorders. Fellows gain comprehensive clinical experience in pediatric hematology, oncology, bone marrow transplantation, neuro-oncology, coagulation, transfusion medicine, and ambulatory hematology/oncology. Training includes procedures such as lumbar puncture, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, and bone marrow harvesting, along with exposure to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and multidisciplinary cancer care. The program also provides protected time for clinical, laboratory, or translational research and scholarly activities, allowing fellows to develop expertise in both patient care and academic medicine.

1. Submit the application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit a current curriculum vitae, medical school transcript and medical school diploma if requested.
3. Submit the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)/Dean's Letter.
4. Provide three letters of recommendation, including letters from previous program directors as required by the program.
5. Submit required United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) scores.
6. International Medical Graduates must provide a valid ECFMG Certificate.
7. The program reviews applications and selects candidates for interviews.
8. Selected applicants participate in the interview process.
