Fellowship in Nephrology

The Fellowship in Nephrology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Brooklyn is a two-year ACGME-accredited advanced training program designed to provide comprehensive clinical and academic training in the diagnosis and management of kidney diseases. The fellowship provides extensive exposure to acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, dialysis therapies, kidney transplantation, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, acid-base disorders, renal pathology, and critical care nephrology. Fellows receive hands-on experience through rotations at University Hospital at Downstate, Kings County Hospital Center, and Brooklyn VA Hospital, with training in inpatient consultations, outpatient nephrology clinics, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, kidney biopsies, transplant nephrology, and interventional nephrology. The program also emphasizes clinical research, teaching skills, and evidence-based practice, preparing fellows for independent nephrology practice, board certification, and academic careers.

3. Applications are reviewed by the Nephrology Fellowship Selection Committee
4. Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview with the fellowship leadership team
5. Final selection is completed through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Medical Specialties Matching Program
6. Selected fellows complete credentialing and begin the 2-year Nephrology Fellowship training
