Fellowship in Molecular Genetic Pathology

1. Applicants must be Anatomic Pathology (AP), Clinical Pathology (CP), Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP), or Medical Genetics board eligible or board certified.
2. Applicants must have completed the required postgraduate training to qualify for board eligibility or certification in one of the above specialties.

The Molecular/Genetic Pathology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited program that provides advanced training in molecular genetic pathology. Fellows gain hands-on experience in molecular diagnostics, hematology/oncology, infectious diseases, cytogenetics, bioinformatics, and medical genetics. Training includes molecular techniques such as polymerase chain reaction, sequencing, fluorescence in situ hybridization, microarray, and next-generation sequencing, along with laboratory rotations, test development and validation, quality assurance, clinical consultation, report preparation, and research. Fellows also receive exposure to the administrative aspects of managing a modern molecular diagnostics laboratory.
