Fellowship in Medical Toxicology

The Medical Toxicology Fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM), Chicago is a 2-year advanced fellowship program offered through the Toxikon Consortium in partnership with the University of Illinois Chicago, Cook County Hospital, and the Illinois Poison Control Center. The program provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic poisoning cases in adults and children, including drug overdoses, environmental and occupational toxic exposures, natural poisons, venoms, and antidote therapy. Fellows gain hands-on clinical experience through toxicology consultations, poison center activities, toxicology clinics, bedside rounds, research projects, and academic teaching opportunities. The curriculum also focuses on toxicokinetics, laboratory toxicology, research methodology, epidemiology, biostatistics, preventive toxicology, and preparation for Medical Toxicology board certification, preparing graduates for careers as expert toxicologists, educators, and leaders in the field.

1. Application Review

• Applications are reviewed by the fellowship selection committee based on clinical background, academic achievements, professionalism, leadership potential, and interest in toxicology.

• Selected applicants are invited for an interview with the fellowship leadership team.

1. Final Selection & Joining

• Selected candidates complete required institutional onboarding and begin the 2-year Medical Toxicology Fellowship training program.
