Fellowship in Medical Retina

1. Completion of accredited Ophthalmology residency training.
2. Eligibility for Oklahoma medical training license.
3. ECFMG certification for international medical graduates (if applicable).
4. Application through departmental or institutional fellowship recruitment process.
5. Demonstrated interest in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery.

The Retina Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is an advanced super-specialty training program designed to develop high-level expertise in medical and surgical retina. Fellows receive comprehensive exposure to diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein and artery occlusions, age-related macular degeneration, uveitis-related retinal disease, retinal dystrophies, and trauma-related retinal pathology. Surgical training includes pars plana vitrectomy, retinal detachment repair, macular hole and epiretinal membrane surgery, and management of complex vitreoretinal conditions. Fellows gain extensive experience in retinal imaging, OCT interpretation, fluorescein and indocyanine angiography, and intravitreal pharmacotherapy. The program emphasizes multidisciplinary care, evidence-based decision-making, and longitudinal patient management. Teaching, clinical research, and academic presentations are integral components. Graduates are well prepared for academic retina practice or advanced tertiary vitreoretinal centers.
