The Medical Biochemical Genetics Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year training program focused on the diagnosis and management of patients with inborn errors of metabolism. Fellows receive integrated clinical and laboratory training through inpatient consultations, metabolic outpatient clinics, newborn screening, and rotations in biochemical genetics and metabolic disease laboratories. The program also includes didactic sessions, clinical conferences, research or scholarly activity, and exposure to related subspecialty clinics. A visiting elective at another institution may also be undertaken with program approval.
