Fellowship in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics

The Laboratory Genetics & Genomics (LGG) Fellowship at the University of Minnesota is a 3-year ACGME-accredited program that prepares fellows for careers as laboratory directors in laboratory genetics and genomics. The training integrates cytogenetics/cytogenomics and molecular genetics/genomics, covering constitutional and cancer genetics, prenatal and postnatal testing, conventional cytogenetics, FISH, chromosomal microarray, PCR, Sanger sequencing, Southern blotting, and next-generation sequencing including targeted and whole-exome testing. Fellows also participate in clinical case conferences, laboratory/clinical rotations, research projects, and national presentations, developing skills in genetic test interpretation and clinical consultation.

2. Submit an updated CV.
3. Submit a cover letter describing relevant experience and long-term career goals.
4. Submit 3 letters of recommendation.
5. Transcripts are preferred but not required for LGG applicants.
6. International doctoral-degree applicants should complete the ABMGG credential review where applicable.
7. Send the complete application to the Fellowship Coordinator, Gaby Heinle.
8. Applications are reviewed in the fall, followed by interviews for selected candidates.
9. The program currently indicates that the LGG fellowship is full through 2029, with interviews for the next fellow planned for summer 2028.
