Fellowship in Hematopathology

1. Must have completed the required AP, CP, or AP/CP residency training.
2. Must obtain a California medical license before July 1 of the fellowship training year.
3. A letter from the residency Program Director documenting completed rotations is required.
4. Additional recommendation letters from Hematopathology faculty are recommended.

The Hematopathology Fellowship provides intensive training in the diagnosis of hematologic diseases through bone marrow and lymph node specimen interpretation, laboratory hematology, flow cytometric immunophenotyping, molecular hematopathology, morphology, immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics and ancillary diagnostic techniques. Fellows rotate for four months each at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Los Angeles General Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, gaining exposure to adult and pediatric hematopathology, including a dedicated pediatric hematopathology and flow-cytometry measurable residual disease experience. Fellows also participate in research, teaching, laboratory administration and scholarly activities.

3. ERAS is not used for this fellowship.
4. Applications are reviewed and selected candidates are invited for interviews.
5. The program is transitioning to the NRMP Pathology Fellowship Match for positions beginning July 2026.
6. Match registration opens in February, ranking in March, and Match Day occurs in April.
