Overview
The Headache Medicine Fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine – Rockford is a one-year, ACGME-accredited clinical fellowship that provides advanced training in the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of primary and secondary headache disorders and craniofacial pain. The program offers comprehensive outpatient and inpatient clinical experience, multidisciplinary rotations, procedural training, and research opportunities. Fellows gain expertise in evidence-based headache therapies, including botulinum toxin injections, peripheral nerve blocks, trigger point injections, and other interventional procedures, while working closely with specialists in neurology, pain medicine, neuroradiology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and related disciplines. The fellowship prepares physicians for independent practice and leadership roles in headache medicine, academic neurology, and clinical research.

Eligibility
- Hold an MD or DO degree (or equivalent medical degree).
- Be enrolled in or have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited residency program in one of the following specialties:
- Family Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Neurology
- Anesthesiology
- Be eligible for fellowship training in the United States.
- The program does not sponsor visas.

Admission Process:
- Apply through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) during the Headache Medicine Match cycle.
- Submit the required application documents to the fellowship coordinator:
- Cover letter outlining career goals and interest in the fellowship
- Current Curriculum Vitae (CV), including all USMLE Step examination results
- One letter of recommendation from the Residency Program Director
- Two additional faculty letters of recommendation
- Attend an interview if shortlisted. Interviews are typically conducted from March through June.
- Participate in the NRMP Match, where fellowship positions are filled through the official Match process.
- Successful matched applicants begin the one-year fellowship in July
