Overview
The Department Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital is an academic, multidisciplinary centre dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and research of head and neck cancer with infrastructure to perform complex ablative and reconstructive surgery, including microvascular reconstruction, in all types of head and cancer. The fellowship program provides intensive hands-on surgical training in complex ablative head and neck oncologic surgery and minimally invasive techniques. The clinical rotation consists of a 18-month period, wherein fellows are responsible for preoperative and postoperative patient care, and are involved in surgical operations under the direction of the attending surgeons. Each fellow performs 250 to 300 procedures during the year of clinical rotation.
Course Objectives:
Impart training in protocol based management of head and neck cancer in a multidisciplinary setting Introduce the trainee to basic and advanced surgical concepts and techniques of surgical oncology pertaining to the head and neck region
Impart intensive training in reconstructive surgery towards the end of the fellowship with introduction to concepts of microvascular reconstruction. Encourage participation in clinical, basic and translational research.
