The Hand Surgery Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship that provides advanced training in the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of hand, wrist, and upper extremity disorders. The program offers comprehensive clinical and operative experience in managing traumatic injuries, fractures, tendon and nerve injuries, congenital hand anomalies, arthritis, peripheral nerve disorders, microsurgery, reconstructive surgery, and upper extremity conditions. Fellows train alongside experienced faculty at UC Irvine Medical Center, VA Long Beach Healthcare System, and Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), gaining exposure to a diverse patient population and complex surgical cases. The fellowship also emphasizes microsurgical techniques, research, multidisciplinary conferences, resident education, and academic development, preparing graduates for careers in specialized hand surgery practice and academic medicine.

Eligibility
- Must hold an MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Must have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, or General Surgery.
- Must be board-eligible or board-certified in the respective specialty.
- Must be eligible for or obtain a California medical license before starting the fellowship.
- Must meet UC Irvine Graduate Medical Education eligibility requirements.

Admission Process:
- Complete the Universal Hand Surgery Fellowship Application through the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH).
- Submit the completed application along with:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Personal Statement
- Medical school transcript
- USMLE/COMLEX scores
- Three letters of recommendation (including one from the residency program director/chief and one from a hand surgeon)
- Applications are reviewed by the fellowship selection committee.
- Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews, typically held during January–February.
- Final selection is made through the NRMP Hand Fellowship Specialty Match.
